Society is Ruthless: A Design Born from Resilience and Injustice

“After I found out that I was pregnant, I decided that I would never give up my child,” said Amna Salih (pseudonym), a 19-year-old survivor of sexual violence in Sudan’s civil war.

Soldiers raped Salih. Amid the trauma, conflict, and social rejection, she chose to keep and raise her child, despite what she calls “the harshness of society.”

“Society is ruthless,” she said. “You often hear hurtful words and nicknames used about those who do not know their fathers or mothers.”

Now holding her 7-month-old baby, Salih is surviving daily with help from organisations like UN Women and SORD. But her future remains uncertain—no stable income, no healthcare for her child, no birth certificate identifying the father, no path forward.

“The future is completely dark for me,” she admits.

The Story Behind the Design

Salih’s story is heartbreakingly real—but it’s not hers alone. Since the war erupted in Sudan in April 2023, sexual violence has been used as a weapon of war. Over two years, millions of women and girls have been displaced, thousands have been raped, and most remain without support or protection.

The “Society is Ruthless” design was born out of this reality. It reflects the cruelty imposed by both conflict and the society that fails to protect—and then shames—its most vulnerable.

Why We Must Speak Up

Conflict-related sexual violence is not limited to Sudan. From Gaza to Ukraine, Afghanistan to Congo, women and girls in war zones face horrifying levels of violence, neglect, and stigma. This is a global crisis that demands global outrage.

This design is our protest.
Our message.
Our demand for change.

Wear the Message. Carry the Mission.

By choosing the “Society is Ruthless” apparel, you:

  • Stand in solidarity with women like Salih (pseudonym).
  • Challenge the stigma that blames survivors.
  • Turn clothing into conversation—and conversation into action.

This is style with a purpose. Fashion with a message.

A Call to Action: Stop the War on Women

Two years into the Sudan crisis, we urge civil society, global institutions, and decision-makers everywhere to take bold action:

  • Stop the war.
  • Stop sexual violence.
  • Protect women and girls from becoming collateral damage in conflicts they did not start.

Every government, every NGO, every voice matters. We must no longer look away.

Because as Salih (pseudonym) said: “Society is ruthless.”
But it doesn’t have to be.
